Project Showcase

Rationale for the project

The project I included really does mean a lot to me. This particular semester, Spring 2025, I was juggling two classes that both consisted of mainly group work. Both went really well, but this one went better. This project is called Friday Night at the ER and it was stimulation we completed in my Interprofessional Collaborative Care class (IPE 4413). This project required great communication, teamwork, and knowledge from the semester. My group members and I had to put ourselves in the shoes of many different roles that healthcare professionals take on. The main focus here was to see if we could use the Interprofessional Education Collaborative competencies in the correct way. The competencies included Teams and Teamwork as well as Communication. To ensure healthcare delivery goes well, it is important to use those competencies.

An important knowledge area highlighted in this project is understanding how healthcare systems work and how patients are cared for. As my group members and I worked through the stimulation, we had to identify the important systems throughout the hospital. This included when the patients arrived, staff we had, and when the patients were preparing to be discharged. This ultimately helped me to see how complex and connected healthcare systems are alongside the different departments because it is important for quality care of patients.

Finally, this project was picked because it shows how I can work in teams, communicate effectively, and professional growth when reflecting on myself and mistakes I make as well as improvements made by my group members and I. One of the main objectives of this stimulation was to display how you can communicate effectively in teams. Active listening is a skill we used to listen to one another and give some constructive feedback. This helped us improve our patient flow and make important decisions. As I look back on this project, my active listening skills have improved and I know how to give feedback in a more professional way. As someone who will be working in healthcare soon, this project portrays how I am prepared to work in a fast paced and team-based setting.
